Work can be hazardous to your health

This is summer in my corner of the world and I am enjoying it to the max. I hope you are also enjoying the outdoors and all activities you love.

Yes, work can be and is often hazardous to your health. Not just for people who work in physically dangerous environments but for everyone who work in offices and corporations that use fear, bullying and unreasonnable deadlines and workloads. Work is also dangerous for your health if you feel you don't have a choice.

Not thinking we have a choice is the biggest lie we tell ourselves. We mostly always have a choice. What we need to say honestly is that we are more willing to live with the present consequences - be it stress, loss of spirit, etc. than the unknown ones.

Are you looking forward to returning to work after your holidays? If not, look at your options. If you don't see any and you are not ready to work with a coach, ask a good friend to force you to think.

How ambitious are you?

Are you ambitious? A little? Much? If you are a woman, there is a good chance that the word ambitious makes you a little or very uncomfortable even in 2006. And the sad fact is, if you view ambition negatively, it will most surely affect the level of success you will achieve.

As long as you view ambition as selfish or bad, you make it very difficult for yourself to put what is truly important for yourself at the top of your list of priorities.

Ambition varies. Someone's ambition may be to find a 6 figure income. Someone else's may be to get a 4 day week job so that she may spend time developing her painting skills or spending more time with her children or reading to her heart's content. And it takes as much courage to declare we want less money and more time as it does to want the CEO position.

What is truly important for you? Are you giving your honoring what you truly want?

Make this week memorable. Make one declaration of ambition:

"What I want for myself is _____________________________. To achieve it, I will______________________, by _________________(date).
